Eight Laws of Health

First law

Pure Air

Fresh, moving, out-of-door air oxygenates the blood and quickens every organ. Open the windows; let sunlight and air into every room.

Second law

Sunlight

Light purifies and builds. Sunshine lowers blood cholesterol and blood pressure, and even has an insulin-like effect that lowers blood sugar in exactly the right proportion.

Abstemiousness

Temperance

Leave off entirely what harms — tobacco, alcohol, caffeine — and use good things without excess. Intemperance begins at the table.

Fourth law

Rest

Sleep and quiet are when the body switches from digestion and labor to cleansing, repair, and rebuilding. Healing needs rest.

Fifth law

Exercise

Movement drives circulation, and perfect health depends upon perfect circulation. Daily, out-of-door activity is medicine.

Sixth law

Proper Diet

Fruit, vegetables, grains, and some nuts, eaten simply and unhurried, at regular hours, without overloading the stomach.

Seventh law

Water

Water is the best liquid to cleanse the tissues — taken between meals, and applied without and within as simple hydrotherapy.

Eighth law

Trust in Divine Power

It is God who made the body and its power to heal. A surrendered, cheerful, grateful mind is itself a vitalizing, life-giving power.
